Information:
ISRA is a registered non-governmental organisation engaged
in financing of community programmes and education
of youth.
It is often engaged in assisting vulnerable Gambian street
children who often beg on the streets with food, clothing,
life skills
training and basic education sometimes channelled through
Koranic schools or Majalis.
According to research in 2006 it has been found that around
60% of street children, or Almudus as they are locally known,
are from other countries in the West Africa sub-region. They
are often sent out to beg for money by their
Marabout (religious
teacher).
