The resort was built in 1971 and is perched on one of The Gambia's most panoramic sites where the cliff gently slopes down to the beach. Its main accommodation block is on 3 floors which is rimmed by a barbed wire fence which is 10 foot high. However, it is perhaps one the country's most disheartening hotels having suffered from many years of neglect and fluctuating ownership. The 'New' room blocks have for many years remained un-finished and occasional attempts have been made at refurbishment to try to revive its fortunes but to little avail. The most recent upgrade is the monumental entrance facing the Atlantic Boulevard which resembles the July 22nd Arch in Banjul. Room rates are difficult to ascertain. In 2000 Airtours dropped it from its destination resorts which was followed by the UK's First Choice tour operator. However, if you are not put off by standards but are inclined towards location and views then this place should be ideal for you.
