Review:
Sandele Bay Eco-Retreat is run
on ethical principles,
training and employing the
local staff and using
local materials wherever
possible. It is built
using ecological
construction techniques
introduced from India to
The Gambia and is run as a
model of sustainability.
Their vision is to create
a centre of excellence in
terms of responsible
tourism, sustainability;
luxury and peace; where
quality, first-rate
service and superior
cuisine is offered in a
manner that maximizes
benefit to the local
community.
The retreat's 4 domed eco-lodges are a one-of-a-kind
rounded and domed
structures that oddly
manage to blend into
their background despite
their red ochre and
yellow roofs. Maximum
use is made the windows
to allow the suns
natural light to
illuminate the rooms
while using as little
electricity as possible.
The private patios are
fairly wide with an
adjacent plunge pool
(shared by 2 suites) to
cool off during the hot
afternoons. There is
also a sturdy deckchair,
very wide, soft Sunbed
and shaded dining area where
you can eat you meals alfresco
style.
The other
10 standard rooms do not
have a plunge pool.
The Sandele's luxury suites are
generous in size while the
wooden beds are more than adequate
to sleep two persons on
its fine, Egyptian
cotton sheets.
The bathroom finishing
does not disappoint as
it is superb quality
with plenty of drawer
space beneath the single
lever tap wash hand
basins for you
towels and toiletteries.
Dining: The in-house Pakaya
Restaurant is set on 2
decks and serves good
standard international
meals as well as local
catches such as spiny
rock lobster.
Note: Available on a half-board or
full-board basis. |
