What flights go to Europe?:
There are a number of local
travel
agencies selling outbound air flights from Banjul Airport to the
UK's
London, England, and the
rest of the EU. These travel shops are mostly dotted around Banjul or in Kololi's
Senegambia area. An alternative route for Europe is to use
Dakar Airport to Paris with
Air France, to
Frankfurt with
Lufthansa, to Milan in Italy with
Alitalia, and to
Lisbon
(Portela) in Spain with Portugal's
Tap Air.
The United Kingdom: The
Gambia Experience has its
headquarters on the ground floor of the Senegambia Hotel. When you
enter turn right and you will their office shed near the front. Their
destinations include all the major regional airports as well as
London's Gatwick.
As for the
Thomas
Cook office they are not far from the Senegambia Junction on a
soil road. However, at the time of writing (October 2008) they only
operate to the UK Gambia from the months of November through to April.
Holland: The tour operator
Travelpoort (open Monday to Friday
10.00 - 17.00 hrs & Saturday 10.00 - 13.00 hrs) has an office on the
coastal road very near the Palma Rima Junction and Paul Maroon's
supermarket. The route takes you via Brussels to Amsterdam using
Brussels Airlines.
You can also try Olympia Travel who are situated opposite the Standard
Chartered Bank House on Kairaba Avenue near the traffic lights / Shell
Junction.
Germany Condor Airlines seats
for Frankfurt are offered by Relax Travel who are located on Kairaba Avenue opposite the main
mosque.
To Spain:
Relax Travel
located in Kairaba Avenue offer
flight seats on Spanair.
To United States: Currently (2008)
there are no direct flights to the USA. You have to take an
inter-connecting route from Europe or take the shuttle air service
(phone Air Senegal on 4202117) to Dakar Airport and fly directly from
their. The cost is currently around D5,000 for one-way.

What is the
Price of Tickets:
As a general rule the cost of flights tends to be sold at a
higher price if you are departing from Banjul International than
if you were coming from Europe. This is particularly true during
the European summer holidays period as the demand for seats for
other international destinations is particularly heavy at this
time. This is further compounded by the fact that during the
rainy season many better off Gambians go to the UK for either
medical treatment or vacation.
Availability: This all
depends on whether it is the on- or off-season in Gambia. Locally there is
a more restricted number of airline services between May to September.
Visas: Do check what
documents you need for the country of your destination by
checking with the local
embassies & consulates
regarding any important requirements before finalising your
travel plans.
