Information: The
professional body that represents people whose work is in the vocation
of the accountancy profession.
Structure: The governing body of
the Association is the Council which is made up of the Executive
officials of the association and 3 ex-officio members:
The Solicitor General and Legal Secretary;
the Permanent Secretary - State Department for Finance and Economic
Affairs and,
the Permanent Secretary - Personnel Management Office.
Standing Committees:
Membership & Disciplinary Committee: responsible for considering
applications for membership from prospective members and maintaining
professional discipline and compliance with laws, rules and
regulations.
Technical Committee: responsible for making recommendations to Council
on technical matters relating to accountancy and related subjects.
Education and Training Committee: registration of student members,
designing training programmes for both technicians and fully qualified
accountants, conducting examinations and designing and assessing
approved accounting experience and continuing professional
development.
Finance and Fund raising Committee: to mobilise resources to fund the
Association's approved programmes and activities and advancement of
its aims and objectives.
Affiliations: The GAA is affiliated
to a member of sub regional and International organisations the most
notable among them are the International Federation of Accountancy and
the Association of Accountancy Bodies of West Africa (ABWA). The GAA
has been an active member of ABWA since its inception in 1986 and it
is currently holding the presidency membership has only recently been
increased over the years from the founder member of four to ten and
includes some Franco phone countries to give it a broad based
representation. To maintain its membership state with ABWA and IFAC
GAA makes a yearly contribution to them.
