Profile & Background: The
Holy Family Band
is one of The Gambia's hottest Senegambian Reggae groups who came
together in 2003 and to date have produced 3 albums. All the
8 members of the band originally come from Bakau New Town on the west Atlantic Coast,
three of the band members are brothers.
Ebrima Sallah, better known as Eba
Sallah started
playing music around the middle of 1998, just after
finishing his
secondary school education. He got together with Modou Jang Jallow aka the Chief
Justice to form a rap & reggae outfit called the Legitimate Brothers. Back
then his music pseudonym was The Well Wisher. The new group
didn't last very long and soon split to pursue other
opportunities. However, because of Ebrima's strong belief in
his
music, he stayed the course, despite the
many difficulties in his path.
At the beginning of
1999 Eba acquired his first guitar and promptly enlisted
himself in music classes to learn the basics of playing the
guitar and music theory. In June of the same year he teamed
up with Habib Leigh, Mamady and Alhagie Leigh to start a
band called The Cyco Band.
They performed mostly for tourists in nightclubs, bars,
restaurants and hotel stages. The bands name was later
changed to Five Star Band
and then again to the Kid & Co.
Crew. Finally in 2003, after so many hic-ups and
false starts the Holy Family Band was born whose style would
be a mixture of afro reggae and hip-hop, soul music.
Among their releases are, "Thank God",
"Respect your mama" and "Things you need to know", and "Bless dem
warriors".
They launched their 3rd Album on the 15th June, 2007, titled
"Things U Need 2 Know".
