Mawlid al-Nabi (The Prophet Mohammed's Birthday)

Date: * Friday 5th September, 2025   See also  HERE

*(Note: dates may vary)

Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was born Arabia in the city of Mecca on the 12th day of Rabi-ul-Awwal (about A. D. 570), which was Monday the 20th day of April, 571 A.C.

The birthday celebration of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and is celebrated by Muslims as Eid-e Milad.  (Also known as Milad al-Nabi, Milad-e Nabi - Milad-un Nabi - Maulid) it is marked by Koranic recitals during the day and religious gatherings throughout The Gambia at night to last until the morning called Gamo.

The Mawlid al-Nabi was first observed around the thirteenth century and was preceded by a month of celebration. There is evidence that the Prophet, his Companions, and the early followers after them did not celebrate or otherwise observe his birthday.
