 Profile & Background:
Pencha Bi (a.k.a. Penchabi)
received a 3 album contract at Yellowgate Studios where they
already recorded and released their first single. After the
release they went on a country-wide tour. They were also
featured on the 'Kairo: Songs of The Gambia' compilation
which gives an overview of the music in The Gambia.
Their act features a fusion of R&B, rap-ragga and mbalax,
blended with some folklore.
The group is made up of Amie Cherie (an ex-comedian) and
three local rappers and a Senegalese vocalist. They first released
promotional singles called 'Bai Ma-Lamin Darra' and `Joyleh-lenn' -
Tribute to the late Ousu 'Lion' Njie.
The band came together after Pa Manjai Sey
(FLX Man) started doing
music when he was at secondary school, and at the same time
being a DJ on
a radio show called 'Pencha Reggae and Ragga' showcase at
Citizen FM in Kanifing. After a couple of years of the show he decided to form a musical group with some
of his associates and came up with the name Pencha B.
