The
QuantumNet Group
was established by its current Managing Director and CEO Mr. Muhammed
Jah in 1998, shortly after the creation of the Internet Gateway by
Gamtel and the United Nations Development Fund on the 25th September,
1998 at Abuko. The firm is the Gambia's first Internet Service Provider
(ISP) which began life with just 4 employees. Today, it now employs over 300 IT professionals. It has branched
out into the West Africa region with a sister company in
Sierra Leone.

The firm also owns the Digital
Superstore on Kairaba Avenue which sells consumer electronic
goods. Espace Motors distributes Chinese made cars with its
own Automobile Service Centre staffed by trained mechanical and
electrical engineers.
Institute of Technology is an IT
training centre which has formed a partnership with the University of The Gambia, The National
Training Authority (NTA) and Saint Marys university in Halifax,
Canada offering e-learning classes. The courses held at the
centre start from basic, intermediate and advanced IT. Students with
little or no computer knowledge can take these courses.
Future Plans:
Expansion of the number of cybercafes
throughout The Gambia.
Electronic commerce with the partnership
of local banks and the introducing credit cards to allow for online
purchases over the Internet.
Live video and audio streaming.
Provision of Intranet solutions to
enable corporate customers to integrate their Management Information
systems.
Launching of the Web-TV to enable
domestic users access to the Internet using their television sets.
Roaming email services QuantumNet's
headquarters have since moved from Banjul to Kairaba Avenue where it
has a purpose built office.
