Coco Ocean Resort
This is the latest addition to the luxury hotels batch dotted along the
Gambia's Atlantic coast resort at Bijilo beach. The quality accommodation,
which was developed by
the Coconut Residence owners, has now opened. It is set on
a section of unspoilt golden sands which is fringed with palms. The 17
luxurious suites are enclosed in buildings which have been designed with a strong
Moroccan influence with its sharp pointed semi-domes and are set in
landscaped tropical gardens. The emphasis at the hotel is on various
holistic, open-air therapies and treatments while at the same time
delivering the kind of personal hotel service which you would come to
expect. Like its cousin establishment restaurant service includes an a la
carte menu from internationally trained chefs offering a variety of
sumptuous meals in Moorish surroundings.

Coconut Residence
This
is truly a personalised
'palace' and one of The Gambia's grandest
and finest luxury hotels, exclusive in
its sheer sumptuousness and rates. Characterised by its off pink villas set
in a Southern plantation style of palms. Within the villas you will find
special extras such as tables of fruit, arabesque motifs and distinctive
architraves and pediment shades on windows. The famous suave Avocado Restaurant is
half open-air under a canopy supported by coconut trunks. It overlooks the
cloverleaf shaped main swimming pool. The 30 or so suites have full AC, some
have their own private pools and poster beds. Other lavish comforts which
you would come to expect are bathrobes, slippers, hairdryers, a mini-fridge,
king or queen sized beds, toiletries as well as a butler service. There are
split-level bathrooms and showers which are clad in marble enclosures. The
downside is that it is located on the main road and some distance to the
beach but a new private shuttle service regularly takes tourists to the
nearest
beach.

Mandina
The sophisticated eco-retreat is a private lodge catering for the discerning
visitor and is nestled, or rather floating, in mangroves on the edge
of a river tributary which runs through 1,000 ha of unspoilt wilderness. No
expense has been spared in the construction of the accommodation which
delivers a high standard of comfort and service for up to 12 paying guests.
Even their swimming pool has been designed in an irregular shape to blend in
as much as possible to its surroundings. Each of their beds is a 4 poster,
handmade bed laid with the finest cotton white linen. The food service is in
al fresco style and includes a daily talk with the chef about your day's
meals which can be served in your room. There are plenty of walkways and
private terraces to allow you to take in the scenery while enjoying some
sunbathing. The only downside is that children under 16 are not allowed.

Ngala Lodge
It is essentially a panoramic luxury mansion located on a
secluded cliff edge in Fajara overlooking the Atlantic Ocean; offering spectacular sea
views and set on 1 acre of tropical gardens with open sided vistas. The suites
are sumptuous, spacious, individually decorated & come in 1 or 2 bedrooms.
Guest rooms are extravagantly decorated, have king sized beds and a quality
of finishing that is second to none. Guests can
choose to dine on their own private verandas basso or at the renowned restaurant
which serves much sought after gastronomic delights featuring an a la carte
dinner menu which changes each tourist season. The main building is a where the main luxury
rooms
are housed and is converted from an old ambassadorial residence. The lodge offers
excellent standards of service and is ideally suited for for visitors who
want quality accommodation coupled with a personal touch while allowing
guests to demand a good degree of individual choice. There is of course air conditioning in all rooms but also there is a choice
of suites with Jacuzzis or hot tubs. The only downside is that
swimming in the sea should take into account the tides.

Sheraton Hotel
The resort spa is set in a truly tropical setting on the beach at Brufut.
Easily recognised by its elegant and distinct buildings it is set in a large
tastefully manicured lawns, in a self-enclosed area, and has direct views out to sea. The main reception lobby
is impressive being a blend of glittering sculptures and marble cladding. As one would come
to expect from the Sheraton there has been no compromise on the comfort of
guest and rooms are of course tastefully furnished to the highest
international standards and offer spectacular sea views. Their infinity swimming pool
is enormous and distinctly shaped while having the advantage of just being a
few metres to the beach. Though there a many steps leading to the lower
levels there are two glass encased lifts which can take guest up to the upper level
living quarters.
