Fawegam Gambia chapter is a registered, gender based
education NGO which was founded in 1996. It carries
out a number of activities such as supporting girls'
schooling, mentoring in schools, creating science clubs
It works closely with schools, NGOs, communities and
ministries to aim towards gender equality in education
via targeted schemes. It also advocates for policies
geared towards addressing girls' issues within the education
system as well as in Gambian society in general.
Objectives & Areas of Intervention:

in education plans & policies.

• A bursary scheme
which provides funds for deprived schools in Gambia.
• The setting up of a Centre of Excellence
for girls in Sambang Upper Basic School.
Mothers' clubs - Advising girls, issuing DEET soaked
The local branch has its origins in FAWE which is a
pan-African non-governmental organisation founded by
5 African women ministers of education back in 1992
after an impromptu meeting during a World Bank meeting
of donors in 1991. Today, FAWE has over 30 offices in
various African countries.
