Information:
The
Simma Vocational Training Centre was founded in 1991
by a Gambian woman, Satang Jobarteh, who wanted Gambian girls
to reach their maximum potential via skills
training and overall education. The SVTC courses includes
computers, accountancy, cooking,
first aid, tailoring etc. At the end of the course they get
an opportunity to sit for the City & Guilds exam and if
successful are issued a certificate from the institute.
Most of the girls come from poor rural villages or are from
deprived backgrounds. Funding from the centre comes from charities
and individual sponsors.
