History:
The origins of the Gambia Football Federation go all the way back to the founding of the Bathurst League in 1940 which featured teams such as Dingareh, Augustinians, Young Lions, East End Lions, Gambia United, Black Diamonds and the MSU. Matches were played in MacCarthy Square and later  in the early 1950s moved to Box Bar Stadium in the capital of Banjul.

In 1955 an inaugural congress met and B.O. Semega-Janneh was elected as its first President with W.B. Thomas as the Vice President.
