The
presence of BAT in Gambia goes back to the 70s and it sells the
country's bestselling brands of cigarettes. It is essentially made up
of around 7 staff who are responsible for overseeing their distribution
network and for organising their different brands promotional
operation.
BAT is one
of the leading tobacco company in the Sub Saharan Africa Area with 38
brands offered to adult consumers in 38 markets. Their business covers
all 6 trading blocks which includes the area from The Gambia in the West to Mauritius in the East; and from
Mauritania and Eritrea in the North to Madagascar in the South.
BAT was formed on the 29 September, 1902, as a joint
venture between the UK’s Imperial Tobacco Company and the American
Tobacco Company founded by James ‘Buck’ Duke.
