Background Information:
There are now over 24 members of the Gambia Hotel Association (GHA) whose membership now includes nearly 80% of the main tourists hotels such as the Senegambia Beach & Kairaba Hotel in Kololi as well as the resorts of Kotu and Bijilo.

It is a board  encompassing the Gambian hotel resort operators, breakfast business owners &  and tour operators.

The GHA's main goals are to develop and promote the tourism sector in the Gambia in partnership with the relevant Government agencies such as the GTA and the Department of State for Tourism as well as with with other interested groups. Furthermore, they aim to provide a consistent level of service at each of the hotels.

Each month representatives from each of the establishments hold a meeting to talk about issues affecting them and address challenges and problems facing the industry. At the end of every year an AGM is held in which a review of the past years accomplishments and forecasts for the up-coming year are deliberated. Names are also put forward for the election of members to the executive committee.

Activities & Events:
As an important player in the hospitality service the association jointly takes part in international tourism shows such at the International Tourism Bourse (ITB Berlin) and the World Travel Market (WTM) held in the United Kingdom, London. The Gambia Tourism Authority (GTA) is charged with organising these visits.

The GHA provides financial assistance for the Government owned Gambia Hotels School on MDI Road in Kanifing (Tel: (+220) 4392264, Fax: (+220) 4227753) which is the only educational institution providing training related to tourism.

The GHA has been co-operating with the Dutch based voluntary organisation called PUM in training of local staff via their volunteer experts in the areas of hotel marketing, information technology booking / HR software, specialised cooking and customer service fundamentals and basics.
